Accelerated Math Pathway

The Jefferson School District Math Pathway is available to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The pathway prepares students to take Algebra I, in 8th grade. In the 2018-2019 school year JSD began identifying graduating 5th grade students to begin the accelerated math pathway in 6th grade. This is one year earlier than the previous math pathway. The course is taught at Jefferson School to all students who qualify in the district.

To qualify for the pathway courses, 5th grade students must meet the criteria established:

    • Math grade of A- or higher, on all trimester report cards
    • Score in the top 10% on the end of year 5th grade district benchmark assessment
    • Math Summative State Assessment score data will also be utilized for eligibility
All 5th grade students will take a district benchmark math assessment in class in May. If your student meets the criteria listed above a letter will be sent to notify you.

The goal of the qualification process is to ensure that students are placed in the most appropriate math course for their learning needs.  The Accelerated Math Courses are designed to be extremely rigorous and fast paced.  It will require a major commitment on the part of the student and their family.
