Transitional Kindergarten 2019-2020 Information

        Transitional Kindergarten

The California Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 changed the law for kindergarten entry date.  For the 2019-2020 school year, children entering traditional Kindergarten must be born on or before September 1, 2014.  Parents of students whose children are born between September 2, 2014-December 2, 2014 may choose to register their children for Transitional Kindergarten.

Transitional Kindergarten is part of the public school system and is free to participating students. Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year Kindergarten experience.  Students who enroll in Transitional Kindergarten will attend the program for the full 2019-2020 academic year and then attend Kindergarten for the following 2020-2021 school year.  Transitional Kindergarten classes will be from 8:15-2:00 daily and will take place at the Anthony Traina, Tom Hawkins and Monticello School campuses.

Teachers and Curriculum

Transitional Kindergarten will be taught by credentialed teachers and is intended to give young learners a head start and provide them with an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs. Teachers will help children develop social and communication skills through activities that build confidence while supporting the traditional kindergarten curriculum of math, literacy, and language development taught in interactive ways.  The program is designed to be a two-year program and all transitional kindergarten students will transfer to kindergarten for the following school year.

Registration for the 2019-2020 school year for the Jefferson School District Transitional Kindergarten is the same process as for traditional Kindergarten.  On March 7, 2019 parents and their TK students should attend the Orientation and Registration Round Up held promptly at 3:30 pm at their school of assignment based on address.  On March 11th registration packets will be available for parents to pick up at their school of assignment. Parents may call or view the school boundary map at for more information.  For more information, please contact your child’s school or the district office at (209) 836-3388.
